It's about $45 to buy the battery from Newpower99. The Paperwhites will be $90 on Black Friday. And I don't really need it anyway. It's a tough choice.

A couple of tips, even though I failed........

1) There is a 11th screw in the center top, covered with the black, sticky tape they used to seal the benzel. Dig it out and remove. Several videos only show 10 screws.

2) You can get an identical battery from eBay, shipped free from the USA for $9.99 complete with the same tools. There was nothing wrong with the new battery I bought and it was identical to what I took out. Putting the original battery back in didn't solve the "band" issue.

By the way, I did start the replacement with a fully charged Kindle with the screen off. I had no way of knowing the charge condition of the new battery, but it did charge up fine once installed.

3) I can't remember how long I had the original battery out, but if I had to do it again I would greatly minimize that time with a well planned "quick swap""!!!
