The tail of that Wikipedia article mentions that birch beer and vanilla ice cream is a Birch Beer Float .... while birch beer and chocolate ice cream is called a "Black Cow". So it's made often enough to have a separate name!
(Though I kinda thought a Black Cow referred to chocolate ice cream and root beer, too. Wikipedia for "Black Cow" says this is true.)
