Barryem, thank you very much for your time in replying! I'm lost without my Kindle PW and spent most of yesterday analyzing devices (I'm retired too). I found out that I needed the Kindle file system to do what I want to do, so it was a tossup between Kindle models. Nothing in the Oasis or Voyager persuaded me enough, so I bought another Kindle Paperwhite.
No, I'm not concerned about Paperwhites. I had the original, 2012, Gen 5 for 5 years and never had a problem with it except the browser.......... The battery still lasted several days with my use being 2-3 hrs/day. I wanted it to last another 5 years and attempted a battery change. The unfortunate thing was the battery change actually went well, but ended up making my Kindle unreadable for some reason. As I am an engineer, I know that solid state electronics do NOT like to have power removed for whatever reason!
