I wrote my friend and told him that his titles and tables of contents aren't copyrightable. I explained that anyone could take them and write a series of books using them, and he'd have no recourse. Of course, I also told him that he could still use them. We'll see what he thinks of that in a few months. We have a slow exchange of actual letters because he is suspicious of the electronic simulacrum.
