To be fair this is the first rebuilt they have done. They probably didn't test it on large libraries. You have to do this on the Android app too. You don't need to reset your tablet/phone but uninstall the Kindle app and reinstall it. Unfortunately on the Fires that's not possible.

It's worth it. You get the all the latest patches on a fresh firmware copy. After you reset go to system updates and manually update all components before doing anything else. Don't open any apps or install anything till the updates are done.
