I don't have kobo desktop installed, I could go get latest version, from kobo I assume.. Theory is that it may install newer drivers ?
IIRC (and maybe I'm wrong and this was a different Windows update) there was a specific problem that MS created with some USB devices and that particular update. Kobo pushed a workaround in a firmware update after that and MS eventually fixed the issue on their side too. So aside from what David said (and trust it a whole lot more than anything I say ), that thread may not be relevant because the problem was fixed.
