Hi all,
Having owned this particular reader for all of 4 days with probably less than 15 hours used, I noticed an alarming amount of dust showing up in the upper right hand corner, behind the touch screen of the PRS-700 well out of cleaning reach. In an effort to figure out where it could be getting in by, I used a can of compressed air and found that dust seemed to be infiltrating through the seam between the grey border of the touchscreen and the black body of the prs-700. I turned on the led sidelights in a pitch black room and sure enough noticed some light leakage from the side lights showing through the seam.
I exchanged my orginal reader at Border's and got a new one in its place.
In what will hopefully stop any further dust from getting into this reader, I cut out a slightly oversized piece of adhesive protective film (large enough to cover the touch screen as well as the entirety of the seam) and planted that onto my PRS-700.
I believe this will keep dust particles out from the reader, and has the added benefit of retaining touchscreen usability, diffusing off some of the glare of the screen, as well as protecting the screen from any errant bumps and knocks (This adhesive film is the exact type that I use on my HP tablet PC to protect the screen, I got mine at photodon.com but any type will do, just make sure you get it thin enough for touchscreen usage and matte finish).
Will post again if dust begins to show up on this one as well too.
Cheers,
Will
(Also, for those that didn't know (as in me) I noticed that the upper right hand portion of the PRS-700 is magnetized so you can "stick" your stylus on there instead of having to put it back in it's slot everytime.)
