I've learned the complete opposite; that it's best to run the battery down. And that if you top it off often, it's best to run it down at least once in a while to prolong battery life.

This is what I've always heard was the best thing to do. I'm not saiyng I'm necessarily right, but I wondered if you had an explanation for that it's better to top it off. Topping it off is certainly more convenient.
