I bought my PW3 in Japan, to be used with my Amazon Japan account actually, but the time came that I wanted to remove the ads. I just deregistered my Kindle, reregistered it to my other account (Amazon Italy in my case, but I bet this works regardless of the country) and removed the ads the usual way. Then did everything in reverse to go back to my Amazon Japan account ☺
In your case, I believe registering it from the start to your US account and doing everything from there should be enough.
Amazon Japan really does get the best offers. I bought my PW3 during a discount for Mother's Day and ended up spending around 50euros for it with the 40% cut in price + euro/yen exchange rate...
