I know many folks dismissed the differences as to be hardly worth mentioning when I brought up this topic for the previous Oasis contrast. Yet, when reading for long periods of time, the contrast is very important to me—perhaps the most important aspect of any e-reader for me.

I returned 2 of the original Oasis devices last year because of the light cones but also because the contrast was better on my Voyage. I just got the new Oasis and the contrast is fine. I've been using the 1+ bold on Bookerly with my Voyage since the update and now have that on the Oasis and the contrast is excellent. The screen is even and I can't see any lights or shadows from the LEDs. The screen is warmer than the screen on my Voyage, but when reading on it and not comparing it side by side with my Voyage, it looks fine. I'm very picky with screens and see all the issues, but this new 7" screen is great. My opinion was the same as your's when I saw the comparison pictures, but in person this new screen is really very nice.
