Question x-ray feature

I am wondering why so few of the ebooks I purchase from Amazon have the x-ray feature? I would really love to have some kind of bonus material about the book I am reading that makes the enjoyment of the book even richer.

Calibre has an x-ray plug-in, but I can't find out what this is exactly or how to use it.
