If whoever ordered it didn't check the box that it was a gift Amazon would have automatically registered it to their account when they shipped it. As to the Harlequin books if they are registered to that account then they won't work on another account (should stay on the Kindle to the best of my knowledge, but might not open), however if they are DRM free copies someone at Harlequin put on there then there will be no problem. You could copy one or all of the books from the Kindle and try opening them on a computer. If Calibre or Kindle for PC can open them then they don't have DRM. Books are stored in the 'Documents' folder on the Kindle.
