PW3-4, PW3-32, fw-5.8.9.0.1 software jailbreak

This is a hardware/firmware specific variation on the current software jailbreak.

There have been some bricked devices reported by users of this procedure, see:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...5&postcount=71

No longer supported for non-active forum members.
Spoiler:

This is only tested on devices without Special Offers.
YMMV if you have Special Offers enabled (such as boot loops when the factory firmware starts the first time).

If you also have password access and/or parental controls set, you will probably not be able to rescue it from such a boot loop.
Keep in mind that risk if you decide to retain Special Offers and any access controls.

Your choice.
I do recommend that you have Special Offers removed before trying this jail break.

Registration: Anytime you change the Kindle's registration status, you stand a very good chance of losing the application keys install by the hotfix package.
You may have to re-install the hotfix if you change registration status.
It will do no harm to re-install the hotfix package at any time.

You should block any OTA updates before allowing the device to connect to the Internet.
To prevent OTA updates, add the OTA blocker directory (folder) name to the top level of visible USB storage.
The blocker directory is named: update.bin.tmp.partial
Use that exact name, no additional extension, no contents.

With reference to the current software jailbreak:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=275877

Read the above cautions.
Read the current jailbreak, with the exceptions you decide to make based on the above cautions, skip to step #4.

Step #4:
Use this file:
update_pw3_factory_5.8.9.0.1.bin (ask google).
This will "update" ("update" is the label on the button, not the action) your firmware from "customer" 5.8.9.0.1 to "factory" 5.8.9.0.1

Step #5:
As written.

Step #6:
Use this file:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...68&postcount=4

Step #7:
This will return your device to a "customer" firmware build.
Note that 5.9.<anything> is not listed in this section.
Not because this section is out-of-date but because I do not recommend its use.
(So please stop using 5.9.<something> only to post about things that are now broken.)

PW3-4Gbyte:
You can chose any customer firmware Amazon has posted for your PW3
The ones listed in the spoiler or newer (including 5.8.11)
- - -
PW3-32Gbyte:
DO NOT use any of the firmware links in the step #7 spoiler, they are all too old to run the 32Gbyte model.
Get a 5.8.9.2 or newer firmware from Amazon. ( 5.8.10 or 5.8.11 are also ok).

Step #8:
As written.
