My son got a cell phone that uses USB C, and it's a major pain. He travels for a living, and if he accidentally leaves his cable in a hotel room or on the jobsite, he can't just go into a convenience store and buy a new cable. He has dozens of micro USB cables, but the only place he can find USB C is either Amazon or Best Buy.

That's all true. Change is uncomfortable, briefly. Me? I bought adapters for about $3 that convert the obnoxious USB micro plug to a USB C plug. Other than convenience in plugging it in, you lose all the benefits but you keep the convenience of all of your old cables. Of course, once you use rapid charge and faster data transfer the new cables seem to be a minor issue.
And the day is near when one charger, one cable, will charge your laptop, your Chromebook, your phone, your tablet. your earphones, your Bluetooth earphones and that cable will be USB C.
