Of course it looks like it's actually going to actually be a micro port, but interesting that Amazon is featuring a USB-C render in a prominent promo image - might suggest that they know USB-C looks better or that they considered a USB-C port at some point in the design? The first picture could well be the top of the rubber plug rather than an uncovered connector.
What you didn't mention, was the two images are of different edges of the Kindle.
I.E: If you call one an image of the top edge, the other one is an image of the bottom edge.
P.S: You do know that applications such as Gimp and Photoshop exist, right?
