You probably did not do anything wrong.
It is known to happen very rarely.

You should now see if you can replace the "jail break survival code" which you just wiped.
There are two that you could try:

There are three ways that it might be possible to install it:
Put in /mrpackages, and use MrPI
Put in / and use UYK
Put in / and restart into it (either with or without having the USB cable connect during the restart).
(Hmm... I guess that is four or five ways, depending on how you count them).
If you can now re-install one of the hotfix packages, using one of the methods, please tell which one and how so we can start gathering information.
