It is not the aluminium that will be 'destroyed,' or rather, scratched. It is the paint.
I owned a Sony 600 without a case for a couple of weeks without a case, and it did pick up scratches and marks. The 600 was aluminium painted black, just like the Oasis/2. I am careful with e-readers. IMO the half exposed back of the Oasis2 is a poor design feature. I wonder if owners of the original Oasis can chime in with their experiences.
