You don't have to pass the image file across the serial port line (but you could, if you really wanted to, y-modem has been fixed in u-boot).

You should not have had to re-install the hotfix package because of the update.
You might have to re-install the hotfix any time you change the registration state.
But the code is all written to presume that people don't change the registration state other than when they first start using the device and when they last stop using the device.
There is no reason to change the registration state at any other time.

I dumped my messages, and I'm actually getting this reinstalling the hotfix:

I'm using the one with a max OTA version, I need to use my 'nomax' version.
