We had a clogged up gutter. After a night of rain it overflowed, straight into a disused chimney (it had been removed from the roof and in the store, but in between it's still there) and down into the store. On the way it picked up soot, so what came out of the hole in the ceiling was brown and sticky. Luckily it didn't smell and was easily washed off things, except where it soaked into paper or cardboard. And luckily no stock had to be thrown away.
We spend half the day cleaning. After lunch the worst handled and there wasn't enough space for us both the comfortable work in, so my father continued cleaning and I tackled the huge shipment (I almost managed to finish it).
Now the only thing left to deal is a chest of drawers, which we wanted to replace anyway and now have the motivation to do so. Unfortunately most drawers were always a bit open (it holds tools, tapes, papers, paper receipt rolls, pens, etc). Still, most should be salvageable, the water didn't run directly into it, but it did splatter into it. My father wants to get a new chest of drawers, a more practical one tomorrow evening, so we probably won't deal with it until those are put together.
I've promised that if necessary I'll work tomorrow all day, instead of just the morning. I'm now keeping my fingers crossed it won't be, so I have time to run my last errands and do my laundry for my vacation.
After this chaotic week I thoroughly deserve those couple of days off!
