And why just the once-per-minute beeps? There's a green power LED and a red "pulse" LED showing the battery isn't completely dead yet -- just "dead enough" to set off the alert. Why not a yellow LED on each detector to signal which one has a low battery so I can find the culprit without playing "Marco Polo" at all hours in the morning?!?!

I am totally with you on that. I loathe the damn things, for the same reason. Worse, due to the high pitch, Mr. Hitch cannot hear the bloody alarms, when they go off. So, I become the official Hearing Ear Dog, going from alarm/room to alarm/room like the Flying Dutchman.
I'm with you on the yellow light. I mean, why the hades NOT?
