A mixture of both I think. From the blurbs and characters this series should totally be my catnip. So the books are disappointing more than bad. She just has the characters behave so foolishly and the plot setups come off as forced too often. So it's a mixture of disappointing plot turns as well as the writing because characters react in such extremes. I can't really give details without massive spoilers. I so
want to like the books. And I do like most of the characters which is the reason I've kept reading.
This is also a case of where I already had the whole series (minus the last book which has their sister as the heroine as it is yet to be released) in my TBR because in the past I've tended to buy whole series if I like the blurb of a later book. I've been trying to break myself of this habit, but as a read-in-order type person it is difficult...not to mention expensive when things don't work out!
