In the Southeast USA, coke is any (carbonated) soft drink. Over several decades in California, I've never heard it used that way, but it is a big state and there is a good bit of it I've never been to.

One of the huge problems with these evolved usages is the expectations that newcomers know and use them. Even worse is the demand that other regions adopt them. Worst is refusal to even consider that misunderstanding is an issue, e.g. German tourist couple in Florida murdered because they did not understand that they were being mugged.
