I don't know if these two have been mentioned.

I read "Small World," By David Lodge, back when I was working on a Ph.D in English. It's absolutely hilarious and captures the academic mind-set that I found myself immersed in at that time. By the way, this was shortlisted for the Booker Prize.

Also, there's another wonderfully witty 'academic' book by Joyce Carol Oats, titled "Unholy Loves."
