I read PDFs on a 7" screen (Nexus 2013) and it's easy to pinch and zoom to read the parts you need to. You can also read in landscape mode.
I put all my knitting patterns on my tablet, and my eyesight is far from 20/20.
It's hard on your eyes for long-term reading, but younger people don't seem to have a problem as much as us oldsters.
