If you are concerned about your router being hacked you might opt for a pocket wifi device. They were popular a few years ago and should be very cheap wherever used electronics are sold. You can also use your phone for tethering and usually there is a setting by which you can restrict WiFi access to only registered devices (your laptop and Onyx). If you really want to make sure you aren't hacked from far away, just remove the SIM card, obviously you have to give up the internet during that time span.
