I like Naked in Death for the beginning of Eve & Roarke's relationship. Also I've reread it so many times there's a nostalgia factor for me. But I agree it doesn't have the best murder mystery.

I always tell people to read the first three books. If you are hooked on Eve by then, the series probably isn't for you.

ETA: I think it's also worth remembering that when she started writing the books back in 1995, there weren't so many billionaire heroes around. The series was pretty unique when it started. And it's still going strong after over twenty years.
The first book in Time had a fake vampire. I assume you mean aren't hooked on Eve.
