For me, when I am reading a .,kepub.epub, pressing on the % read, hours to go or page xx of yy will move to the next option. For sideloaded epubs, pressing toggles between page xx of yy and % read. And note, I do mean pressing directly on the text -- moving to either side will trigger page flip or menu depending on exactly where I touch.
