We're doing okay here in Austin--thanks for the emails! Most of my friends in Houston are doing okay too. One guy has a roof leak, but he's managing (he's landlocked--most people are). Some loss of electricity, but not as bad as the last hurricane. Here's the campus I used to work at:

It's a real mess. I feel very fortunate. We only had about 6 inches of rain over 3 days here where I live just north of Austin, which the drains were able to handle without a problem. One side of our fence blew down and with it so soggy, the metal poles and the concrete came completely out of the ground. That's gonna be fun to fix. When it's dry and hard it takes a jackhammer to make a hole. When it's soggy, the thing just lifts out and drifts away! The storm was never violent here, although obviously it got quite windy or the fence would still be up. I walked in the rain yesterday and only saw one large tree limb down. The neighbor must have cut it up before the worst of the wind was over because pieces of it were all over the street. Another neighbor had his lawn crew out in the rain MOWING. Those are some dedicated lawn folks! (And they will likely get extra clean up jobs this week so probably didn't want to run behind on their regular lawns.)

For us in Austin the worst has passed through. Houston was still getting some rain this morning.
