Purification Offering in the Priestly Literature: Its Meaning and Function by N. Kiuchi is
free at Amazon.
This is an academic title that is expanded from the author's Ph. D. thesis and is published as part of Sheffield Academic Press's "Journal for the Study of the Old Testament Supplement Series". I haven't read this book yet, but I do have several others from the series and they're fascinating reading.
I put an eReaderIQ watch on this book over two years ago and honestly don't remember why, but I assume it was a footnote or reference in something else that I was reading. I'm also pretty sure that "free" is a much better discount than I was expecting.
Quote:
This academic work focuses on the concepts of atonement and sacrifice, using texts from the Pentateuch. Kiuchi looks at the differences between purification rites and those used for expiation. He discusses the Hebrew word, hattat, to discover if it is used mainly in instances of purification or atonement. A variety of interpretations are used to gain a fuller context of the source material.
