Do, in this order:
  1. Update to the current firmware version (5.6.1.1)
  2. Register the Kindle to your Amazon account.
  3. Have Amazon customer service remove the "Special Offers".
  4. When the device and your account both show that it is registered and Special Offers removed, do in order:
    1. Install again the 'hotfix'
    2. Install again MrPI
    3. Install again Python
    4. Install again the screensaver add-in

You must do all of those things in exactly that order.
That is the only way to make the screensavers work on your device.
