Assigning info from imported file name to user defined column

I can't seem to figure it out, but I'm wondering if there is a way to use the regex to assign some information from an imported file name to a column I have created myself? Calibre shows only the pre-defined information sections and I was hoping to sign a specific section of the file name to a column I've created.
EDIT: Alternatively I can import a section of information to the comments section, and if I can then find a way to copy information from the comments section to a user defined column that would work as well, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet either.
