Today (Sunday) at 5.15pm the telephone rang. My father was DIYing at my sister's place, my mother was putting a load of laundry in the washing machine so I pick up the phone and the following conversation happened:

me: Hello, Bianca <last name> speaking.
man: I'm standing in front of your shop and it's closed [note: I didn't pick up with the store's name, but with my own]
me: Did you get this phone number off the paper in the window?
man: Yes.
me: What other information does that paper list? [in a much bigger and bold font I might add]
man: Uh, the opening times of the store...
me: And what does it say for Sunday?
man: That the store's closed, but I know you live over the shop so....
me: Is it an emergency?
man: No, I need new batteries for my tv remote.
me: Then you're welcome to buy those on Tuesday, we open at 10am. Have a nice day.

Seriously.
Yes, we're closed on Sunday and Monday. We try to have a day for ourselves on Sunday (emphasis on try) and on Monday we're busy with shop things: pick up supplies, go to trade fairs, visit suppliers or manufacturers, do bookkeeping, make orders, etc.

I don't mind helping when it's an emergency; when the fuse blew and you don't have a spare or whatever. But batteries for the remote. If you're that desparate there are more than enough supermarkets open until 10pm or midnight in the city center, or go to a gas station. But don't think that just because we live over our shop we have a duty to help you when we're closed. Also, experience learns that some people think if you help them once when the store's closed it's okay to come by regularly outside of opening times.
