You're confused about the difference between revenue and profit. Amazon has no problem selling at a loss as that has been their model. What matters to them is revenue, market share and the long goal.

As for the PW I think you're talking about the launch of the original model. Amazon had to make up for r&d costs along with higher production costs. What was that five years ago? I doubt it costs as much to mass produce now.
