Have you checked out Calibre? http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/

It does that sort of stuff automatically. It even has its own forum here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=166

Even if you don't want to use it, you could ask in that forum because there is a lot of experience there pulling RSS feeds from news sites.
