Well, it's not a corporate restaurant, just a little Puerto-Rican restaurant in the south side of downtown Nashville.
The free wifi was not an option. There was *nothing* in the scanning list. I couldn't see any hotspots, free or otherwise, secure or otherwise (though I and others could from their phones). I couldn't even download a book. The hotspot on Android is not an "unknown manner", it is a well known and understood part of the OS (it is disabled by the carrier on some phones but not mine) and one that I have used many times and tested specifically with the Kindle before departing my home.
At this point, I'm just going to wait and see for next month. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen again but we will see. I will be sure to have my laptop with me and will allocate enough time that I can do some more in-depth debugging.
One thing that stands out is that it seemed like there was a non-alphanumeric character in one of the available hotspot's names. Seems unlikely though. I'll give it a try anyway. (nope, not that)
knc1, I'll definitely give those a try. I'll probably accumulate more tools on the kindle as I go but it's pretty clean right now.
