OK, with logged temperature on my web server up at 107F, I think we can count out overheating (at least on its own).

To connect the phone to the hotspot, I was just running the built-in android network. Again, this was a restaurant so no blocking going on.

I agree that I need to be at the restaurant to fully debug but I am too busy to head back there on a whim. The next meeting is next month.
