Interesting you have hot water machines and our motels provide free ice.
There was one hotel I visited in Antwerp which didn't have an electric kettle in the room, but downstairs was a nook where there was one of those machines for coffee, tea, hot chocolate and hot water, it was free for guests. They also put the leftover fruit, bread roll and croissants there for guests to help themselves to.

All other hotels I've visited had an electric kettle, tea, instant coffee, sugar and powdered milk in the room. One hotel in London had a little shelf for the tea/coffee set, with a power point beneath it. However, the cable of the kettle was too short too reach it!

I have yet to go to a hotel which offers ice, but it might be available in hotel in warmer climates, such as Spain or Italy. I prefer to visit cooler places.
