I have a Kindle and an iRex DR (both are e-ink devices), and on both, I've found that I can read smaller type for longer periods than I can on regular paper. My eyes are very near-sighted (about 20/120 as I recall) with heavy astigmatism, so for example without my glasses, I have difficulty reading a large wall clock from several feet away.
