If you are on windows you can use this program to monitor all your usb connections, even after they disconnect.

If you are very lucky, your kindle might show up as a different kind of device, which may help unbrick, though I don't see a lot of reports about this.

kindle doesn't reboot when holding down power button. That's the problem. Cannot hard reset either....
