Yep, but most of the "I get a headache reading on LED" I heard was prior to frontlights, peoples lines are now set in stone.

You're right though, if someone turns a frontlight as bright as a backlight then they should have the same problem.
Right experiment time, someone who can't read on LED get a light meter and adjust the backlight on a e-ink device to match lumens, read and see if you get a headache
