It probably would, but not by much.
The problem is the tips being made of Polyoxymethylene (POM), instead of nylon. POM has a better electrical conductivity, but is very soft.
That Sony sells them for $2 per tip is pure theft, especially considering the manufacturing costs and the fact that I need to import them over to Europe.
You could experiment with sanding down nylon string (€0,15 per metre retail) and see if the conductivity is high enough.
If not, you could try 3D Filament made of POM or order a batch of tips from a local POM wire manufacturer. That would be slightly more expensive, but nowhere near $2 per tip rip-off prices.
