I would describe the series as SciFi, though many of the books take place on planets without much "advanced" technology. The series tends to bounce back and forth between stories set on space ships and those set on planets. The stories are all set in the same universe, but some are completely stand alone works and others feature the same group of characters, while still others feature various other groups of characters (it's not as confusing as it sounds).
She also writes a paranormal series set in ancient Egypt, but I have not read any of those.
