Sounds like something got corrupted.

Try updating to 5.8.7.0.1 (the most recent that can still be jail broken if things get worse).

First post, Step #7, section headed "Amazon", open spoiler, there find download link for 5.8.7.0.1 for your device.

If that doesn't fix it -
Then we will have to do something more drastic.
