It's been several years, but I vaguely remember that when I was shopping for a reader the Kobo seemed to be the only one whose manual stated explicitly that you could disable the wireless and do everything you need via a wired connection. I think there were even some brands that could be connected ONLY via WiFi.
Maybe my shopping wasn't extensive enough!
