Sorry it didn't work out. Fairfax uses a portal called SmartPay, which accepts only Visa and Mastercard, and it did accept my Australian issued card. Eventually. When I was having problems I searched on it and the results included quite a few US libraries so I thought it would be worth a try.

I got so frustrated with SmartPay that I even tried the transaction on my mobile simply to eliminate the possibility that it was some peculiarity about my network or computer. That may be worth a try.

First Data seem to market their product as an international solution, so it would be strange for them to not accept non-US cards. Not impossible of course.
