So there is no way to know if the Kindle would trigger the 5.volt range or the 9.volt range.

Just get a plain, no frills, $0.76 wall charger for 5 volt (common) devices, not one for tablets or smart phones.
@knc1 thanks for the quick reply. So based on what you said, most probably I'm going to buy a new adapter instead of risking the use of this one. another member of this forum (Eliy) said that he's using a similar adapter to charge his kindle, but I'm still not sure if by prolonged use of this charger I will damage my kindle or not, so It's better to buy one. I live in Iran, do you have any suggestions for a good charger for kindle, please give me a link to one or to a few adapters. also what's the deal about the powerfast chargers amazon offers, do they really charge the kindle faster, and if yes are they safe to use or do they gradually damage the battery in some way?
