USB have four pins, power-data-data-ground - check on Wikipedia the first image in the summary column -, just cut the first one.
Then, the cable may or may not work, depending on the devices to be connected: the USB specifications state that data should flow only if power is perceived, but the specifications are not often followed, so one should just try.
