Well, a when you're a student you don't have income and it can be seen as 'lost a job'; besides if you have a library available it makes sense not to buy an ebook reader.

If you're on a bad payed job and any kind of electronic toy seems luxury, but you still buy books, means you'll be spending lots more in the long run... That's all I'm trying to say.
Perhaps you don't have much left every month because you chose to have a livingstandard that did not allow you to buy anything extra (eg: have an income of 1200, and live on a 1000 rent appartement).
It would be wise to step down to a smaller space, and save say $100 on rent which can be directed to all kinds of gadgets and toys,or just extra saving for the future.

What would you do if in such case you get sick and miss out a couple of days of work?
Lose your home due to not being able to pay rent?
