Which Amazon OS were you planning on trying to install? Amazon's fork of Linux as used in their eInk ereaders? Or FireOS, the fork of Android used on their LCD tablets?

Getting the Linux version to work on your KA1 would take a mass of changes to support the hardware differences even ones such as the display resolution that look relatively minor while the hardware would not support FireOS without an even more massive rewrite and faking support for missing hardware components -- no accelerometer,, no GPU, no camera, no microphone, etc.

Also remember unlike quite a few other Kobo ereaders, the internal storage in the KA1 is soldered to the motherboard, there is no internal uSD card which can be removed and rewritten external to the ereader. One glitch and you would own a rather expensive paperweight.

You might want to check out eInk's evaluation kits -- the ICE emulator with the 7.8" display is priced at $449 US.

So to condense this down to one phrase: Don't even think about it.
