I store mine with the lid upright in the side handle, since it lives on my stovetop.  Hopefully that will help as well.

 We find two rings to be enough.   One gets used with anything with strong spices or the like, the other isn't.
The one smells of cumin no matter what we try.  I don't think it would really flavor the food, but we use the other for yogurt and cheesecakes and the like, just to be sure.
